Can You Use Organic Shampoo For Your Dog?

With the popularity of organic shampoo exploding, many people are starting to wonder if they can use it on their dogs. After all, if it’s good enough for us and even our kids, it should be safe enough for our furry, little friends, right? Yes! Organic shampoo is not only good for dogs, but you should use it for your dog! Keeping a dog’s coat healthy and shiny is part of good dog health and will help them feel a lot better. And, when you can do that with organic, natural products that’s even better!

You can go out hunting for organic dog shampoo; you can find it online or ask your veterinarian if they know where you could get any. Beware though, that if you buy commercially-made organic dog shampoo, it’s probably going to come at a price. But it doesn’t have to. You can make organic shampoos for your dog to keep your dog’s coat healthy and shiny – and do it safely too! To make your own organic dog shampoo, you’ll need these ingredients: 1/3 cup glycerine; 1 cup organic dishwashing liquid; 10 drops of lemon essential oil; and 1 cup of apple cider vinegar.

Start by pouring everything except for the lemon essential oil into a large bowl and mixing them well. Then pour in the lemon essential oil and stir again. This essential oil will help keep fleas, ticks, and mosquitoes at bay. Lemon essential oil can irritate the skin of some dogs though so if your dog has sensitivities, you can replace this with tea tree oil. This oil is especially well-known for its antiseptic and anti-bacterial properties. If you want both benefits, you could mix 5 drops of each oil into the dishwashing liquid mixture.

Once you’ve made your organic dog shampoo, you can store it in a capped bottle. When your dog is ready for a bath, just give it a shake and then bath your dog as you normally would.
